PrintAustin’s annual print fair is back, this time accessible from the comfort of your own studio! PrintEXPO 2021 is being reimagined as a virtual experience where artists will have the ability to showcase and sell their latest prints on our online platform. In addition, we’ll be publishing our first ever PrintEXPO Guide in collaboration with Almost Real Things to be distributed around Austin and available to ship worldwide. PrintEXPO 2021 will also include curated workshops, demos, and talks to showcase unique and unconventional forms of printmaking during a one-day conference on February 6, 2021. 

ELIGIBILITY PrintEXPO 2021 is open to artists, collectives, studios, and print shops worldwide. Submissions must utilize traditional print media as their primary technique. These include lithography, relief, intaglio, silk screen, photopolymer plate (i.e. solar plates), and monotype. While non-traditional or digital output is accepted as a print element, solely digital and photographic prints are not eligible. PRINTEXPO PLATFORM  All participants will receive the following:

  • Vendor Profile via our online platform, incl. 6 featured prints, vendor bio, link to your website and Instagram. To preview vendor profiles, visit printexpo.org/vendorpreview. Vendor profiles and print sale capabilities will remain online from February 6 through August 30, 2021. 
  • Vendor Feature in the printed PrintEXPO Guide, incl. 1 artwork, name, website link, Instagram handle.
  • 3 copies of the Almost Real Things PrintEXPO Guide

PARTICIPATION FEE All applicants will be required to pay a $10 processing fee to submit their application. If selected, participants will be required to pay a participation fee of $60 USD, or $75 USD if they choose to sell work through the PrintEXPO Online Shop. Please read below for more information on Fellowships.

ART SALES For participants who do not have access to their own online shop, and/or would like to have the option of selling their work directly from the PrintEXPO Online Shop, they will be required to pay a participation fee of $75 USD. PrintAustin will retain a 20% commission from all art sales sold through the PrintEXPO Online Shop. 

Participants will be responsible for shipping artwork within two weeks of the purchase date, and should take into account the estimated shipping cost as well as PrintAustin’s 20% commission when pricing each print. PrintAustin’s commission will be taken out prior to disbursing art sale payment to participants. Art sale payments will be disbursed to participants at the end of each month through August 2021. 

REVIEW PROCESS The number of PrintEXPO applications has grown dramatically over the past couple of years. To make participation more equitable and ensure artistic quality, we’re excited to have a Review Committee who will lend their expertise to select 60 participants. 

Applications will remain open beginning on September 1 through November 1, 2020.

IMAGE CRITERIA  Applicants may upload up to 6 artworks that represent their repertoire. These images will be used by our review committee during the selection process, as well as on the public Vendor Profile. PrintAustin staff, in collaboration with Almost Real Things, will select one of these images to be featured in the PrintEXPO Guide. 

Image Requirements:

  • Image Dimensions: Images must be at least 5” or 1500 pixels wide
  • Image Quality: 300 dpi
  • File Size: 5 MB maximum
  • File Type: JPEG (“Quality” set to Maximum).
  • Please name your files according to the Vendor Profile Name you provided above (i.e. PrintAustin_01.jpg, PrintAustin_02.jpg, PrintAustin_03.jpg, etc.)

FELLOWSHIPS PrintAustin is committed to providing equity for historically underrepresented and other marginalized groups, and is currently working with sponsors to provide Fellowships to cover the participation fee of artists who identify as part of one of the following groups:

  • BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, Person of Color)
  • Disabilities community, including immunocompromised
  • Other historically underrepresented or marginalized groups

VIRTUAL PROGRAMMING  For those interested in participating in our one-day virtual conference with a specific workshop, demo, artist talk or panel, you may submit a brief proposal via this form or write to us directly at admin@printaustin.org. If your proposal aligns with our goals for this iteration of PrintEXPO, we'll contact you to further discuss your idea! 

Please note that this section WILL NOT impact your score in the review process for participation in PrintEXPO 2021.
